Challenges with COVID-19 Vaccination among Hispanics (webinar)

Join us on the 5th installment of Pandemia—the series of webinars— in which we will review new and updated information about COVID19 vaccines. We will also touch upon the availability of vaccines for the pediatric population.
We will discuss as well the challenges that the Hispanic/Latinx communities face in relation to the COVID-19 Vaccine rollout, the importance of engaging these communities in COVID-19 Vaccination, the efforts that Community Based Organizations in New York and Washington DC are doing to disseminate actual and current information about vaccines, and the implications of local and federal government efforts in vaccine equity.

PANELISTS :
Ligia Peralta, MD, President and CEO, Casa Ruben Inc.
Dr. Peralta is a clinician scientist, Fellow of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and President and CEO of Casa Ruben Inc., an organization addressing health disparities in underserved communities. Dr. Peralta is an active member of the HIV Vaccine Trials Network and co-chair of the LatinX committee of the COVID-19 Prevention Network of the National Institute of Health. Currently, she leads a new initiative addressing the needs of individuals recovering from COVID-19. As a clinician researcher and advocate her interest resides in health disparities, HIV, chronic illnesses, and vulnerable populations. She was awarded the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology Sloan Fellowship on Innovation and Global Leadership. Most recently, she served as the Co-Chair of the Incidence Committee of the United States Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS in Washington, DC. She served as a Commissioner of the Maryland Health Care Commission.
Guillermo Chacon, President, Latino Commission on AIDS
Since 2010, Guillermo Chacón has served as President of the Latino Commission on AIDS, where he is a vocal advocate on the impact of HIV, viral hepatitis, STI’s in Hispanic/Latinx communities and on the need to advance access to care to the most impacted communities. Guillermo’s work focus on develop agendas on health policy issues affecting the health of Hispanics. Governor Cuomo appointed Guillermo Chacón to serve in the NYS Vaccine Equity Taskforce, to the New York State AIDS Advisory Council and re-nominated him for the New York State Minority Health Council. Chacón was appointed by Mayor de Blasio to serve in the NYC Commission of Human Rights in November 2019, to the HIV/AIDS Services Administration (HASA) community advisory board and the Committee on New York City Healthcare Services. Guillermo Chacon also serves on various Boards and Committees, NYC COVID19 Vaccine, Test & Tracing program as part of Community Advisory Committee, and others.
RAlejandra Gepp, MS, Health Program Director, Unidos US
Alejandra Gepp is a seasoned bilingual public health professional with expertise in training and community engagement, program management, and strategic planning. She currently works at UnidosUS (formerly, National Council of La Raza) – the largest national Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization in the United States – as Health Programs Director for Training and Engagement. In this capacity, Ms. Gepp leads the strategy, development, and evaluation of health trainings and leadership engagement for affiliates, subgrantees, and external partners aimed at improving health outcomes and the wellbeing of Latinos. Ms. Gepp has a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in education and human resource development
