Film Short Steps at Astoria Screening Festival this Wednesday

Short Steps LauraThe screening of “Short Steps” is at the first semi-monthly Astoria Screening Festival at 8 PM on July 23rd, located at Katch Astoria (3119 Newtown Ave), where the film and 9 others will be screened for a night of 10 short films under 10 minutes.

Short Steps” is Queens to its core, from its Astoria setting to its cast and crew of predominantly Latina/o Queens natives. Beyond that, it’s linked to the borough through Jackson Heights-based Producer Richard E. Calvache’s prior work with the Queens World Film Festival and Queens Theatre in the Park, and Woodside’s own Writer/Director Laura Aguinaga.

The film follows the story of Eric (Juan-Pablo Veza, also seen on the likes of Lifetime’s Devious Maids, Blue Bloods, and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit) on the day of a new beginning. Still veering from the pain of no longer being with his wife, Eric discovers the difficulties of addressing his future while haunted by a still-vivid past. Through glimpses of the past, present, and future, the film hits home with something all must experience: the pain of loss and the healing of moving on.

“Short Steps” premiered as an official selection for the SoHo International Film Festival in May and the ACT Film Festival in July, and is slated for several more screenings and appearances in the future, including Astoria Music & Arts’s music and film festival in Astoria Park.
