
Congressman Joe Crowley (D-Queens, the Bronx) welcomed the new Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to the United States, Anibal de Castro, in his Capitol Hill office on Thursday, July 28.
“It is with great honor that I welcome Ambassador De Castro to the United States. New York, and my district in particular, is home to a strong and vibrant Dominican-American community and the Dominican Republic is also an important friend and ally of the United States. Ambassador De Castro is a seasoned and well-respected journalist and diplomat, and I look forward to working with him in the future,” said Congressman Crowley.
Anibal de Castro was appointed Dominican Republic’s Ambassador to the United States in July 2011. Most recently, he served as Ambassador to the United Kingdom. A respected diplomat, Ambassador De Castro previously had an extensive career in print and television journalism.
New York’s 7th Congressional District is home to many Dominican-Americans, many of whom reside throughout Queens and the Bronx.
Congressman Crowley is a seven-term representative from the 7th Congressional District of New York, which includes sections of Queens and the Bronx. He is a member of the Ways and Means Committee and is a chief deputy whip in the Democratic leadership of the U.S. House of Representatives.
