Selected highlights include:

NORBERTO’S DEADLINE / NORBERTO APENAS TARDE
(Daniel Hendler, Uruguay, 2010, 89 min. New York Premiere)
Prompted by his new boss at a real estate agency to take an assertiveness course, Norberto joins a theater group and everything in his life, including his relationship with his partner, starts to change. Set in Montevideo, this tender and quirky tale of personal reinvention directed by Daniel Hendler, the iconic Uruguayan actor (The Lost Embrace, Family Law), zeroes in on the mysteries and small joys of everyday life as it explores with deadpan humor the possibilities for self discovery inherent in the creative process.
Fri Aug 19, 4:30pm; Sun Aug 21, 1pm; Tue, Aug 23, 7pm

COUNTRY MUSIC / MÚSICA CAMPESINA
(Alberto Fuguet, Chile, 2011, 100 min. New York Premiere)
Alejandro Tazo, a laid-back and mellow Chilean with no money or friends who is interested in country music and speaks almost no English, roams through Nashville hoping to find work and meet people. Writer-director Alberto Fuguet evades the classic immigrant story with this amusing tale that explores with humor and brilliant, funny dialogues the experience of a foreigner wrapped in the textures, feelings and sensations of a strange city. With a fabulous soundtrack of country and rock music, some performed live.
Fri Aug 19, 6:30pm; Sun Aug 21, 3pm; Mon Aug 22, 4:15pm

ALL YOUR DEAD ONES / TODOS TUS MUERTOS
(Carlos Moreno, Colombia, 2011, 88 min. New York Premiere)
It is election day, and while the village is teeming with activity and noise, further out in the quiet countryside Salvador wakes up early to take care of his land. As he calmly treads the mazes of his cornfield, he stumbles on the most macabre scene: a huge pile of corpses lying in the blazing sun, right in the midst of his plantation. Horrified, he heads to the village to report the massacre but little attention is paid to him as public officials have other priorities in mind. Moreno (whose first film, Perro come perro, premiered at Latinbeat 09) skillfully and vividly recreates the stifling atmosphere resulting from the mix of corruption, poverty, violence that plagues Colombia today.
