In English:
Let the volleys begin! GOP presidential candidates Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul will have one more chance to have the last word when students from Queensborough’s esteemed Mock Trial Team face-off on the issues.
Approximately 12 students will take part in the live event as the Republican candidates, moderators journalists and Master/Mistress of Ceremonies. In the debate format, each candidate will have one minute to answer a question posed by one of four distinguished “journalists” and then one additional minute to respond to the answers of the other candidates.
“There is significant value to an event such as this,” said Ted Rosen, an Assistant Professor in the Business Department and a Faculty Advisor/Coach for the Queensborough Mock Trial Team. “Realistically portraying people who are currently shaping the national conversation is a powerful tool in helping students appreciate and become involved in an experience of historical importance. What’s remarkable is that usually, by the time the Presidential primary is held in New York in April, the nominee has already been unofficially selected and there is no real contest. It appears that may not be the case this year.”
