“This will be an exciting evening never to forget!” said Dr. Christine Mangino, President of Queensborough Community College. “Thrilling performances, a guest appearance by a very special alumnus and a greeting from our distinguished Community Partner of the Year, Dr. Jasmin Moshirpur, who exemplifies the meaning of courage, commitment and care.”
“The whole community is invited to join Queensborough as we champion our students’ success and hold a pre-graduation concert!” said Vice President Stephen Di Dio.
More than 2300 students will graduate from Queensborough in a virtual ceremony on June 4th.
“Families, friends, anyone, and anywhere can get to Broadway before Broadway opens by registering for the event! The tickets to the main show are free!” added Vice President Di Dio.
Hosted by Queensborough students and graduates, the online extravaganza is accessible to everyone who registers at www.qcc.cuny.edu/toast. QPTV (Queens Public Television) will also broadcast the concert at the same time.
A $35 dollar donation to Queensborough will also gain viewers special access to an exclusive performance of The Music of the Night by Hugh Panaro, star of Phantom and a live Q&A with the cast, after the event. Funds raised during the show will directly benefit Queensborough students in need.
Arguably the most diverse college in the country, 40% of Queensborough students live in households that earn less than $30,000 annually. Hundreds, impacted by COVID-19, continue to access the College’s community food pantry and other emergency services. Over the last 12 months, the college has distributed $200,000 raised by donations to support over 400 students in need.
During the show, the College will award New York City Health + Hospitals (Elmhurst) Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Jasmin Moshirpur, its Community Partner of the Year. A 50-year stalwart of Elmhurst hospital, 82-year-old Moshirpur directed and supported her staff through the onslaught of COVID-19 last year with dignity, resolve and faith. Through it all, Dr. Moshipur said her relationships with her medical and nursing students and colleagues were paramount.
“Like Elmhurst [Hospital], Queensborough Community College is vital. We share a mission to educate, care for and address the needs our community,” Dr. Moshipur said.
“Never before has Queensborough had a year like this. And never before have we been able to gather together so many people who love the college for a single purpose. It will be an incredible event,” said Di Dio.
“I will popping up throughout the night to support the college and all the students and graduates,” said Romano, who graduated from Queensborough in 1981 with an Associates of Arts degree in Liberal Arts.
All funds raised during the Toast benefit concert will support student success at Queensborough, including the provision of direct financial aid to students in need.
