To launch Children’s Library Discovery Center, the Queens Library invites the community to a festival of fun and culture. It is this Saturday in Jamaica and everyone is invited.
WHO: EVERYONE in the community
WHAT: Enjoying free refreshments, performances, hands-on science experiments, music and story-telling
WHEN: Saturday, September 17, 2011, 11 am – 4 pm (RAIN OR SHINE)
WHERE: 89-11 Merrick Boulevard, Jamaica, NY. Outdoors if weather permits; indoors if it rains
WHY: The new Children’s Library Discovery Center is open for fun and learning! Math and science education never was so much fun before. And it’s always free, at Queens Library.
SCHEDULE OF EXCITEMENT (all free):
11 am – 4pm: face painting, popcorn, cotton-candy
11 am – 4 pm: Vinnie Voltage will be performing hands-on science experiments
11 am – 4 pm: Discovery Team invites you to get your hands into science: try out the bubble column, the crystal ball, Boo Bubbles, more
12 – 12:45 pm: Circus Performers Vanessa Vortex and Co. do incredible gravity-defying feats, including hula hooping, juggling, acrobatics and more
1 – 1:45 pm: Franklin Institute presents a science show on Hot & Cold.
2 – 2:45PM: Storygami with Christine Campbell: storytelling meets origami!
3 – 3:45PM: Bilingual Birdies live music concert with three performers in Spanish & English
