Corona Plaza Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

This past weekend, Corona Plaza celebrated the start of Hispanic Heritage month with Culturafest a family friendly event that featured many free activities and health screenings. Highlights included – The Healthy Village featured the Walgreen’s Way to Wellness tour which offered a variety of free screenings and health education ranging from cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure, BMI and free flu shots.

Diane, one of the nurses on the health bus said “This was one of the best events she has every attended!.” The Colgate mobile provided free dental screenings and local plaza tenants Procare Medical and Corona Vision provided free vision screenings.Dr. Diego Ratzlaff said “This event has helped so much in broadcasting our services to the community.SCO Family Services hosted a resource pavilion that featured a variety of local community groups offering immigrant rights, legal assistance, women services including a special presentation on domestic violence awareness.Sandy Moya coordinator for SCO Queens Single Stop Program said “Culturafest at Corona Plaza is an excellent resource for the immigrant community.”The Corona Community Ambulance Corps showcased their equipment and techniques that they use responding to emergency situations in Corona.Mambo Fitness lead a wonderful fitness regimen demo throughout the event that encouraged families to get fit with fun Zumba with a Latin twist.The event culminated with a wonderful kids version of the Broadway hit Hairspray performed by the URZUA Center Of Performing Arts.
