Free Classes (AAFE) in Queens to get U.S. Citizenship

Immigrants should get their citizenship to vote and participate in this country.

AAFE Community Services announces a new round of free classes to help local residents prepare for U.S. Citizenship. The 10-week course begins Saturday, April 6 and will continue each Saturday through the month of May at AAFE’s new offices in Jackson Heights, Queens.

Instructors will assist participants in studying for the civics exam that is part of the federal government’s naturalization interview. They will also help community members improve their English language and writing skills and conduct mock interview sessions.

The classes will take place at 37-61 84th St.

AAFE’s newly expanded Community Services Center just off of Roosevelt Avenue. AAFE provides assistance to community members in English, Chinese and Spanish. In addition to the regular curriculum, counselors are available for one-on-one assistance with naturalization applications and other immigration issues.

Asian Americans for Equality is a 45-year-old nonprofit organization that was founded to fight for civil rights in Lower Manhattan. It has offices in Chinatown/Lower East Side, as well as Flushing and Jackson Heights in Queens. In addition to immigration services, AAFE provides tenant counseling, operates youth and senior programs, builds affordable housing and supports immigrant small business owners in the five boroughs.
