Over 100 immigrants, including South Asians, Latinos, Filipinos, East Asian, among many others, rallied on Friday in support of Mike Brown, who was killed by the police in Ferguson, Missouri. The immigrant protestors held signs and chanted, “no justice, no peace,” and “Black lives matter” and they wanted an end to all police killings.

The rally organized by DRUM – South Asian Organizing Center was joined by Ugnayan, NAACP LDF, CAAAV – Organizing Asian Communities, NICE (New Immigrant Community Empowerment), NYIC (New York Immigration Coalition”, ISO (International Socialist Organization), Brooklyn Defenders, and many immigrant community members. The event was organized by the youth members of DRUM.
DRUM member Nayim said that “as an undocumented immigrant, I have been organizing to end deportations of immigrants, including my families, by saying ‘not one more.’ Today we also say ‘not one more’ to police killings in Black communities.”
Another one of the speakers, Roksana Mun from DRUM, said that “As immigrant communities, we know that we stand upon the shoulders of Black communities and their struggles in this country. And at a moment when the Black communities of Ferguson are under siege, we stand in solidarity to proclaim that Black lives matter.”
Over two dozen of the youth wore t-shirts with drawings and slogans on the front, and the names of those killed by police on the back: Eric Garner, Shantel Davis, Amadou Diallo, Aiyana Jones, Ramarley Graham.
