Queens Economic Development Corporation offers ‘Business Blueprint Series’ for entrepreneurs and established small-business owners

The Queens Economic Development Corporation in the upcoming weeks will offer four seminars on such topics as publicity, sales, advanced social media and business presentations as part of its ongoing Business Blueprint Series.

On March 14, Randy Shannon, who has over 14 years of experience as an internet marketing specialist, will lead the first seminar, “Advanced Social Media: Leveraging to Promote Your Business.” The founder of the web design/development company Web Strategies will provide a primer on proven internet marketing strategies, cyber-misconceptions, long-term growth and tracking and social media.

On March 21, Susan Harkavy, a PR consultant specializing in home design and lifestyle, will present “Publicity Basic for Small Business Start-Ups.” The former head of PR for the Museum of Arts & Design and current adjunct instructor on guerilla marketing at New York Designs will expound on ways to make and pitch stories and create media-worthy events. Participants will learn how to set their businesses apart from the competition.

On April 4, renowned small and mid cap value analyst Vincent Tang will offer “Pitching and Presenting Your Business.” The Lockwell Investment executive, who began his career as an investment banking analyst with Bear Stearns & Co., will help participants create “Presentation Road Maps” in order to include key business information and create powerful images to clients.

On April 18, Bianca Di Salvo, who founded the coaching company Working Sage, will direct “Seven Secrets to More Sales.” The certified facilitator, trainer and adjunct professor in Fordham University’s marketing department will help participants apply the

seven sales secrets to their businesses in a safe environment before heading into the business world.

All these Business Blueprint Series seminars will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Entrepreneur Space, 36-46 37th St. in Long Island City. Each session costs $25, but if a participant signs up for three classes, the fourth one is free.

Queens Economic Development Corporation and ACCION USA offer training sessions for entrepreneurs and small business owners who are seeking loans

Long Island City, NY — Do you need money to launch your business? How about a bridge loan to buy a piece of equipment or raw ingredients to fulfill an order?

The Queens Economic Development Corporation and ACCION USA will present a two-part workshop to familiarize prospective entrepreneurs with obtaining micro-loans on March 26 and April 4 in Long Island City. The two-hour, Monday-night workshops, led by experienced professionals, will also give participants the opportunity to review financial documents with a loan officer without having to wait for an appointment and/or wade through excessive red tape.

The March 26 class, which costs $15, will focus on what lenders look for and preparing to make a loan request. Participants will get a one-on-one review of their credit reports, find out if they qualify, and/or learn how to improve their credit to qualify for a loan

On April 2, a loan officer will review participants’ financial documents and loan purposes

and determine how a loan will help them grow their business. (Cost: $10.)

The workshops will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Entrepreneur Space, 36-46 37th Street in Long Island City.

Participants must be in business for at least six months to apply for loans. Participants are requested to come prepared with all their loan documents, including a printed out Equifax credit report which they can obtain for free at www.annualcreditreport.com.
