New York Hospital Queens Collets Gifts for the U.S. Army

New York Hospital Queens’ FreeMAT (the Freedom Medical Aid Team) will present a “mountain” of gifts collected from this year’s community toy drive for the U.S. Army. Representatives from the U.S. Army will accept the gifts on behalf of the children of deployed U.S. Army personnel. NYC Comptroller John Liu, along with other elected officials and members of the U.S. Army will be in attendance. For the first time, the U.S. Army will videotape the program and share it worldwide with soldiers who are serving overseas.

WHO:
The FreeMAT has been actively involved in collecting donations for the United States Armed Forces personnel since April 2002.

The toys will be distributed to the children of deployed Army personnel from Fort Totten in Queens and other local reserve bases in the greater New York region. There will be several holiday parties in December where the toys will be distributed.

This year, to help collect toys, FreeMAT partnered with New York City Comptroller John Liu, local schools, Community Bd. #7, Senators Toby Stavisky and Tony Avella, Assemblymembers Grace Meng, Rory Lancman and Edward Braunstein, Councilmembers Peter Koo and Dan Halloran, the Bayside-Whitestone Lions Club and the Queens Center Mall to help collect gifts. The program received a grant from the Corporate Giving Program of Macy’s Department Store.

New York Hospital Queens is a member of the NewYork-Presbyterian Healthcare System and affiliated with the Weill Medical College of Cornell University.
