After a press conference to announce that New York Hospital Queens was named the official hospital of the New York Cosmos, team members from the soccer club visited the hospital’s Pediatric unit.

Young patients were greeted by Head Coach and Howard Beach resident Giovanni Savarese, Assistant Coach Alecko Eskandarian, plus several players: Sebastian Guenzatti and David Diosa (who grew up in Queens) as well as Carlos Mendes and Jimmy Maurer.

The players handed out miniature soccer balls with autographs to the young patients and gave well wishes. “Feel better. We hope to see you at a game this season,” the players said as they left a patient’s room. The patient beamed with happiness. “I love soccer…I can kick the ball very far!” she boasted.

The new partnership allows NYHQ and the New York Cosmos to work together to raise awareness for bone and joint health among all area athletes (including the weekend warriors) via events such as youth health and wellness clinics in Queens. Dates and times will be announced.
