Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito and the New York City Council launched the Young Women’s Initiative (YWI) to help the young women of NYC to achieve their dreams. Too often, these young people confront hurdles in school, at home, and in social services. The YWI brings together leaders and organizers on the ground with teens and young adults, with the goal of crafting policy recommendations that address racial, gender, health and other disparities. Young women are at the center of these conversations – as active and consistent participants in discussions and through a multiplatform campaign – #SheWillBe.
#SheWillBe is a vehicle for expression for young women in NYC and a way for policymakers to hear directly from this constituency.
