Congressman Crowley Announces Winners of 2014 Art Competition for 14th Congressional District.

Rep. Joe Crowley (D-Queens, the Bronx) announced the winners of the 2014 Congressional Art Competition for New York’s 14th Congressional District. Erick Robles, a senior at the High School for Arts and Business in Corona, took top honors for his acrylic on canvas piece titled, “Mon Seul Burdier”. Erick’s artwork will be displayed at the U.S. Capitol for one full year along with other winners from around the country.

“The Congressional Art Competition is a wonderful opportunity to discover our district’s most promising young artists and give them a platform to express themselves,” said Rep. Crowley, a staunch supporter of the arts. “Each year, I am further encouraged by the quality of the artwork submitted and I continue to be amazed by the creativity of our homegrown talent. Congratulations to Erick on being this year’s winner and thank you to all the students who participated!”

The Congressional Art Competition is a nationwide high school art competition that provides an opportunity for Members of Congress to encourage and recognize artistic talents of their young constituents. Over 650,000 high school students nationwide have participated in the competition since 1982.

2014 14th Congressional District Art Competition Winners:

First Place:
Erick Robles, 12th grade, High School for Arts and Business

Second Place:
Karina Linares, 12th grade, High School for Arts and Business

Third Place:
Rani Actub, 11th grade, Preston High School

Congressman Crowley is the eight-term representative from the 14th Congressional District of New York, which includes sections of Queens and the Bronx. He is a member of the powerful Ways and Means Committee and serves as Vice Chair of the Democratic Caucus in the House of Representatives.
