NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst will launch its new pet therapy program for behavioral health in-patients with furry friends. Partnering with Queens-based Fairview Rehab and Nursing Home, a variety of dogs, cats, rabbits, and parrots will visit the hospital to be introduced to employees, patients, and the community. During their visit, employees, patients, and community members can pet and interact with the pet therapy animals.
NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst’s new Pet Therapy Program will provide in-patients with behavioral health disorders, such as major depressive/affective disorders and schizophrenia with positive human-animal interactions in a mental health setting, and will allow patients to have additional emotional support while in treatment.
