The expansion of Travers Park will now be a reality. The City recently finalized the purchase of the Garden School athletic field in Jackson Heights. Councilman Daniel Dromm has been the leader of this green project.
Soon the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation will erect a fence defining the property line. The field will be available for use on evenings and weekends throughout the school year and full-time during the summer months.
I was able to secure an additional $1.2 million in capital funds for the renovation of the Garden School athletic field. These renovations will take place after community meetings to discuss the design of the overall project. I will keep you informed about when these meetings will occur.
Special thanks to Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Deputy Mayor Howard Wolfson, NYC Department of Parks & Recreation, Queens Borough President Helen Marshall, the Garden School board members and Dr. Richard Marotta, The Jackson Heights Green Alliance, The Jackson Heights Beautification Group and Friends of Travers Park.
